Welcome to our world of 3D applications! What does the quality of a product or service mean? Reliability, durability, safety, customer trust, aesthetics. In striving to improve the quality of products, we define them in a universal way and check them dimensionally according to their norms. This process has steadily improved over the years, and we will describe how on this website.
Result of a contactless 3D measurement with a selected area for checking a plane
3D Applications include 3D measurement technology with its sub-area of contactless 3D measurement technology. Here not only individual measuring points on the object are recorded, like in the traditional 'touch probe' CMM world, but the object as a whole. So you have the possibility to decide later how the component is to be tested, at which point and according to which principle. Measurement objects are scanned using sensors, often optical sensors, and in recent years increasingly using computed tomography (CT scan). With this method, even cavities and areas that are difficult to access on the component can be detected.
Imported CAD model of a stamped / formed part with programmed features in GOM Inspect
Optical 3D sensors based on fringe projection are manufactured by the German company GOM based in Braunschweig. Founded in 1990, GOM is developing the widely used GOM Inspect program to evaluate measurements of this type, as well as those from CT systems. Starting from the CAD data set, based on the drawing and the customer's specifications, test programs for components can be planned and completed up to the measurement report without the physical part having to be present. This is particularly important in the development and prototype phase of new products, as it enables conventional development cycles to be shortened considerably.
As a service provider and partner of GOM, we have been supporting companies and individuals in the use of GOM systems since 2014, in three areas:
Programming: we create GOM Inspect templates based on CAD data, the drawing and the functional specification. If, for example, many programs are required for the launch of a new product in a short period of time, we will help to meet the delivery date on time. The data transfer takes place via the secure server service The Good Cloud .
Training: we specifically help to set up new GOM teams, be it to support the basic training already provided by the manufacturer, be it when changing employees. To support our training and to ensure the sustainability of the knowledge acquired, each trainee receives a training manual tailored to his or her application.
Best Practice: we improve processes, methods and concepts of installed GOM systems, with a focus on measurement accuracy, robustness and efficiency. Groups of existing programs are standardized in order to deliver homogeneous and reliable results. No program is absolute: it reflects the competence and level of experience of its developer. As with the tuning of a racing car, new potential in the use of GOM systems is exploited.
Lang GmbH 3D Messtechnik was founded in 1996 by Christopher Lang in Saarbrücken, Germany. Initially, the focus was on portable 3D measurement technology, a novelty at the time. The ROMER arms from Montoire / France were made famous in the German automotive industry. Later, the focus of Lang GmbH shifted to optical 3D measurement technology. Companies like METRIS and KRYPTON from Leuven in Belgium played an important pioneering role. The systems from STEINBICHLER and GOM, which are now combined within the ZEISS Group, were further milestones on the way. Today, the core competence of Lang GmbH lies in the area of 3D measuring systems from GOM.
